This is the first track from the first Scritti Politti Peel session, from nineteenseventyeight or so. Obviously the earliest stuff is the best, as with all the best people, save Beefheart; which is the face that this song appears to mine from. But its upsidedown or some shit. Its sad they didnt stay ths way for very long.

In some kind of Peel session frenzy, here are The Fire Engines playing 'Candy Skin'; it's so pretty and simple but complex and original and short and the melody is all lovely. And thn you get some of their other tracks, get up and use me is the most well know i suppose, which are far more dissonant and scratchy sounding. Why, its almost the perfect group. I think this is from about '81 or so. They would do 10 minute gigs and everything like.

There were some problems but now, with plenty of help from stuart at 20jazzfunkgreats, this thing works again. Apart for some reason the bIG*fLAME post has dissapeared. Which is obviously rubbish.
Tomorrow I'll post again - I'm thinking either excerpts fromthe first scritti politti and fire engines peel sessions or some Fall, or some Can or Neu! - maybe theyre too obvious? But I'm not being wilfully obscure here, plenty of people know alot more than me about all of this than I do. I've come across some lovely live PiL stuff, same with Sonic Youth (pre-'88 of course) and Captain Beefheart and Devo.
Finally, a plea.
CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE PLAY ME SOMETHING BY CHROME???
I can't seem to find anything. And i heard they are great.

If you look past all the Louie Louie covers and so forth, guys like Mr. Wammack (!) and Link Wray were really doing some interesting and great things, Im sure I'll post some more of this sort of stuff up at a later date, its so short and catchy and fun and interesting.

This is taken from the residents 'Fingerprince' album from the late 70s. I really do not know this band's huge pool of releases well enough to pick something more seminal or defining, but i do know that this is an excellent, weird song.

I recently found a japanese girl garage comp from a bit back, a really great record. I cant seem to find much information on any of the groups, save the 5.6.7.8s and Pebbles, which is a real shame. Some of the best tracks come from someone called 'The Apricots', making music that Millie Small would be proud of.
